In spring 2006 I was commissioned by CultMark (Cultural Heritage, Local Identity and Place Marketing for Sustainable Development) UK to produce an exhibition of photographic artwork interpreting the stretch of the Shropshire Union Canal between Chester and Ellesmere Port. A one-day photographic workshop for local children was run at the British Waterways Boat Museum at Ellesmere Port. The resulting photographs were exhibited alongside the main exhibition at Chester History and Heritage between August and November 2005 . It later moved to the gallery at the Boat Museum, Ellesmere Port.
The European funded CultMark UK project was developed to raise the profile of the local branch of the Shropshire Union Canal between Chester and Ellesmere Port and to encourage local people and visitors alike to discover their fascinating local canal heritage.
CultMark UK was a partnership between Chester City Council, Cheshire County Council, Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, The Boat Museum Ellesmere Port and British Waterways. It Was one of five similar projects which took place in Europe - the others were in Neo Ionia Magnesia in Greece, Kainnu in Finland, Rockstock in Germany and Pafos in Cyprus. The project was part funded by the European Union through the Interreg IIIC programme.
